Vulva: Η Fashion Revolution Day και η... συμπαντική σύμπτωση με την Promod!

Η διεθνής Fashion Revolution Day 24.04.2015, που φέρνει στην επιφάνεια παγκοσμίως το ερώτημα "Who made my Clothes?" ["Ποιος έφτιαξε τα ρούχα μου;"] ίσως προέκυψε ακόμη πιο αποτελεσματική απ' όσο νομίζαμε, όπως δείχνει μια απροσδόκητη σύμπτωση που συνέβη κατά την ημέρα αυτή. 

 

The Fashion Revolution Day 24.04.2015, that brings internationally up on the surface the question "Who made my Clothes?", may have come out to be even more effective than we thought, as a completely unexpected coincidence that happened on exactly this day, shows.

Πρόσφατα, είχα κάνει μια αγορά για την οποία είχα αμφιβολίες σχετικά με την χώρα κατασκευής των ρούχων. Τελικά συμπεριέλαβα την εταιρεία αυτή στην Fashion Revolution Day, αφού μετά από δυσάρεστη έκπληξη ανακάλυψα κοιτώντας το εσωτερικό καρτελάκι πως το ύφασμα των ρούχων της εταιρείας αυτής, όχι δεν φτιάχνεται στην Κίνα, όχι δεν φτιάχνεται στην Ταιβάν, δεν φτιάχνεται καν στο Μπαγκλαντές - μέρος από το οποίο ξεκίνησε το ίδιο το κίνημα της Fashion Revolution -, αλλά φτιάχτηκε στην... Καμπότζη! Χώρα που συνορεύει με το Βιετνάμ, το μέρος που έχει δεχτεί μία από τις μεγαλύτερες και πιο βίαιες ιμπεριαλιστικές επεμβάσεις στα εσωτερικά της ζητήματα, με τον γνωστό σε όλους "Πόλεμο του Βιετνάμ" της δεκαετίας του '60.

A few days ago, I personally made a clothes purchase, about which I had second thoughts regarding the construction origin of the clothes. Eventually, I included this company in a post of mine during the Fashion Revolution Day, since I unpleasantly discovered after looking at the inside label of that trousers that the fabric of the clothes of this company is made, not in China, not in Taiwan, not even in Bagladesh - the place from which the Fashion Revolution itself started -, but in... Cambodia! A country bordering with Vietnam, in a place that has received one of the largest and most violent interventions in its inner matters by imperialistic powers, with the very well-known "War in Vietnam" during the '60s.  

Φόρεσα λοιπόν το παντελόνι ανάποδα [Inside Out], όπως προστάζει η μέρα, φωτογράφισα το καρτελάκι που γράφει την εταιρεία και τη χώρα κατασκευής, και ανέβασα τη φωτογραφία στο facebook γράφοντας το μήνυμα "I want to thank the people who made my clothes" ["Θέλω να ευχαριστήσω τους ανθρώπους που έφτιαξαν τα ρούχα μου"], ταγκάροντας την εταιρεία Promod και βάζοντας το hashtag #whomademyclothes.

So, I wore my jeans Inside Out, as the day instructed, I photographed the label that wrote the company and the construction country, and I uploaded the photograph on facebook writing the message "I want to thank the people who made my clothes", by tagging the company Promod and placing the hashtag #whomademyclothes.

Το απόγευμα περνούσα από την Ερμού. Περνώντας, σκεφτόμουν το τζην που είχα δει στο ίδιο κατάστημα και το οποίο ήταν και εκείνο σε τιμή που να μπορώ να αντέξω οικονομικά. Σκέφτηκα λοιπόν "δεν χάθηκε ο κόσμος, ας ψωνίσω και αυτό αφού είμαι εδώ και δεν ξέρω αν θα βρω αλλού τέτοιο παντελόνι με τέτοια τιμή". Στην Ερμού πολύς κόσμος, τα καταστήματα ανοιχτά, φτάνω έξω από το κατάστημα Promod, Και το κατάστημα ήταν... κλειστό!

In the afternoon, I was passing by Ermou street in central Athens. As I was passing by, I kept thinking about an affordable jeans that I had seen in the same shop. And I thought "What the hell, I will buy it since I 'm here and I don 't know where else I will find a similar jeans in the same price". So, I went up the full of people Ermou street with all the shops were open, I arrived outside of the store Promod, and the store was... closed! 

Στο τζάμι του είχε μια ανακοίνωση που έγραφε "Είμαστε στη δυσάρεστη θέση να σας ενημερώσουμε ότι το κατάστημά μας θα παραμείνει ανοιχτό μέχρι τις 23 Απριλίου". Θέλησα  κάποιο χρόνο να το εμπεδώσω... Το κατάστημα της Promod στην Αθήνα είχε κλείσει την ΑΚΡΙΒΩΣ ΠΡΟΗΓΟΥΜΕΝΗ ΗΜΕΡΑ της Fashion Revolution Day. Και όχι μόνο αυτό... Μόλις είχα προστατευθεί και εγώ η ίδια αυτομάτως από το να κάνω μια αγορά για την οποία είχα ένα μεγάλο ηθικό δίλημμα, ακόμη κι αν οι τιμές (που προφανώς ήταν τόσο χαμηλές λόγω κλεισίματος) με "τραβούσαν".

On its window an announcement wrote: "We inform you with regret that out store will remain open till 23rd of April". I needed some time to process this... The store of Promod in Athens had closed ON EXACTLY THE PREVIOUS DAY of the Fashion Revolution Day. And not just that... I had just been automatically protected from making a purchase, about which I had a great ethical dillemma, even if the prices (that were obvioulsy so low due to the upcoming closure) "attracted" me. 

Σύμφωνα με την ανακοίνωση του καταστήματος, οι καταναλωτές παροτρύνονται να συνεχίσουν τις αγορές τους διαδικτυακά.

Φθηνά εργατικά χέρια στην κατασκευή... Καθόλου εργατικά/εργασιακά χέρια στην πώληση (!)

According to the announcement of the store, the consumers are urged to continue their shopping on-line.  

Cheap working hands in construction.... No working hands in sales (!)
